The Pretrial Justice Institute (PJI) was established as the Pretrial Services Resource Center in 1977.  PJI is an independent 501c(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to advocate for fair and effective pretrial practices that eliminate inappropriate detention, optimize diversion from prosecution, and maintain community safety.  Over the past three decades, local, state and national entities have sought assistance from us on the analysis of local jail populations and courts systems; development of alternatives to incarceration; testimony before policy-making bodies on bail reform and jail crowding; and training seminars for pretrial practitioners, judicial officers, correctional officials, and other criminal justice professionals.
