About PJI

The Pretrial Justice Institute’s (PJI) mission is to advocate for fair and effective pretrial practices that eliminate inappropriate detention, optimize diversion from prosecution, and maintain community safety. We strive to fulfill our mission by facilitating research that drives evidence-based practices, assisting state and local governments in improving their pretrial policies, and providing technical assistance that elevates practice among pretrial programs, the justice system, and the communities that support them.

Dear Friends:

Welcome to our celebration of thirty years of service.  The Pretrial Justice Institute, started as the Pretrial Services Resource Center, has created a remarkable legacy as the nation’s leader in pretrial justice reform.  This legacy is the direct result of the tireless work of the leadership and staff of PJI throughout the years, as well as the countless hours invested by those who have served on the Board of Trustees.  Our advocacy, research and technical assistance has changed the practice of pretrial justice in hundreds of communities throughout the nation and internationally.  All of this work would not have been possible without the support of our many donors, funders, collaborators and friends.  Thank you for joining us as we celebrate our wonderful history and as we look forward to the challenges ahead.
