The #unconvicted photo project shows the human side of some of the people who, but for a few hundred dollars, spend weeks, months, sometimes years, waiting for their day in court. Their stories echo what the research tells us; even short periods of unnecessary detention can ruin lives that are already teetering out-of-balance. It erodes the connections that we spend billions trying to restore further down the road: work, family and education.
