Performance Measures

What is the most important pretrial data that must be collected? How should it be analyzed so that a pretrial justice program can be accurately assessed for efficiency and effectiveness? Jurisdictions are moving to a common set of definitions for process and outcome measurement.

The Pretrial Justice Institute is the nation's only nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring informed pretrial decision-making for safe communities. When people are arrested, their release or detention pending trial should be based on a thoughtful, informed assessment of whether they will stay crime-free while on release and return to court for trial.

The following publications highlight issues of performance measurement – appearance rates, public safety rates of those on pretrial release, and other criminal justice system outcomes at the front-end of the system. More documents may be found in the Library.
